Protosphyraena Skull

Protosphyraena is a sword fish from the Cretaceous.  This is a very good skull collected in the Niobrara Chalk of Kansas.  The upper skull is nearly complete and the rostrum is complete.  One complete upper and lower jaw were preserved.  The front of the second lower jaw was preserved.  Several of the larger teeth are preserved and no restoration to the teeth has been performed.  There is repair to this fossil and some of the large cracks have been filled, but no reconstruction has been performed.  The skull has been placed in an artificial chalk matrix and set in an oak frame.  Frame measure 21.5 inches long by 8.75 inches wide and is 2.5 inches deep.  Back of skull to tip of rostrum is about 17 inches. Longest front tooth is about 1.5 inches long.  Pictures are high resolution and I recommend opening in a new window or tab to view full resolution.
