Pteranodon Wing Bones #3
This piece consists of several partial Pteranodon wing bones in the natural matrix. The matrix has been saturated with stabilizer but is still a fragile piece at about half an inch at the thickest. The large wing bones are portions of metacarpal IV and phalanx 1 . The small broken bones appear to be from the remaining metacarpals, but no knuckles are observed. The bottom bone (Phalanx 1) measures 8.5" and the top measures 7.75". Matrix measures 11 x 6 inches. We collected this piece in the Niobrara Chalk (Cretaceous) of western Kansas.
