Mosasaur Jaw on Custom Stand-Morocco

  • $2,600.00

This lower mosasaur jaw is from the Cretaceous phosphate beds of Morocco.  This is a nearly complete dentary of the mosasaur species Prognathodon anceps.   I purchased this jaw partially prepped, but in a plaster jacketed matrix.  I have completely removed the jaw from the matrix and mounted on a custom claro walnut base that I made (included).  The jaw is saturated with a stabilizer, however portions are thin and fragile.  The jaw measures 22 inches long and is about 7 1/4 inches at the widest including the teeth.   The thickness of the jaw ranges from 1/8 inch to 2 inches.   Teeth average 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 inch long not including the root.  On average the teeth stick up about 2.25 inches above  the jaw.  Walnut base measures 12" x 5" x 2.75: thick.  Total height of the piece including base is 15.5".  There is repair but no restoration.  While most of the teeth have cracks and have been glued, the middle tooth was completely broke and glued together, see detailed pics.  Unlike many mosasaur jaws on the market, the teeth in this one are all the original teeth, see detailed pics.  This makes a great display piece.  Email if you have any questions.
