Cimolichthys Skull
Cimolichthys is often referred to as the barracuda of the inland sea. This is a near complete skull. The skull has been flattened from the top down rather than on the side. Teeth are visible on the bottom side. The piece is so thin that I did not remove any more matrix from the bottom side. Zoom into the pictures for detail. This piece is preserved with a penetrant/stabilizer and is in the natural matrix. The piece measures approximately 11 3/4" long at the longest point by 9". This fossil is from the Niobrara Chalk of Western Kansas.
