This is a complete Ichthyodectes skull. This skull was embedded with roots making it very difficult to prepare. Much of the black is due to roots. The skull has been repaired and preserved, but no restoration. The skull is preserved with a penetrant and stabilizer. The skull is stable enough that is has been mounted on a wood based such that it is visible from either side. Teeth are only visible on one side, see close up. View image in a new window or use zoom tool to see high resolution details. The color difference is due to exposure (tan) versus the buried section (brown). This fossil is from the Niobrara Chalk (~87Ma) in Western Kansas. Complete location will be included with purchase. The skull including stand measures 18 inches long by 18 inches high. Lower jaws are just under 6 inches long. email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
